Together. It is a really important word to us. We are convinced that we are much better together. I can’t help but wonder if that is why the enemy works so hard to divide us- especially right now in a our weary and torn culture. Every week we meet folks here in Boone who are lonely and longing for ‘home’ and ‘family’- even longing for Spiritual family but it has failed them so often. They didn’t feel welcome to it, or worthy of it, or seen by it- so they press on alone. We know that Jesus values ‘together’ in ways we can’t imagine as we consider the length He went to to take on the Name Emanuel, “God with us”. We could not build this Church in Boone without the amazing partners that God has called ‘together’ for this effort. Waypoint, CPOTS, 1st Christian of Johnson City, The Point in Raleigh, ReachLife in Asheville- we are held up, encouraged, resourced, enabled, guided, and funded every week because folks that live in different towns care about God’s work in Boone. It is amazing to watch. Every week we grow more convinced that this new Church MUST HAPPEN. There are indeed hundreds, likely thousands in this small town who are disenfranchised with the Church and confused about Jesus and wandering through life alone. Nearly every week, we are trying to meet them and to invite them to our dining table for friendship and talking and listening. We sense God’s heart for this mountain town and He wants Boone to know she is not forgotten by Him. His love is pulsing and pursuing the folks huddled into big and small houses all over these mountains.
Our Launch team is growing. We are growing as we build this Church together. These are really great folks and I am still amazed at how God is letting us find them. They all sense the need and the compelling to walk out in faith to build this Church by loving each other well and following Jesus as He leads us. We are growing closer each week as we share our needs with one another, as we eat together, pray together, learning to worship together, and to dream and serve together. It is a really, really good word and an even better experience. Together was God’s big idea. I am so glad. I really love Church.
